An earthquake with a magnitude of 6 occurred in the central part of Ethiopia, reported specialized seismic monitoring centers. The epicenter of the earthquake was located not far from the Afar region, one of the largest and most densely populated areas in the country, where around half a million people live. The earthquake occurred at a shallow depth, measuring ten kilometers below the surface of the earth.
In the past week, the Afar and Oromia region have experienced a series of small earthquakes after a nearby volcano began showing signs of impending eruption at the beginning of the year. According to the monitoring center, earthquake activity in Europe and the Mediterranean has been recorded in these areas with a significant number of small earthquakes.
At this moment, there is no information about the number of affected people or damage to property following the earthquake.
